Our Mission

The Minnesota Youth Waters Project (MYWP) started a few years ago with the vision of getting young people and families connected to the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Experiences connecting young people to one of the world’s largest and important rivers through environmental education, river research, conservation projects, and building important life long connections to the outdoors are all highly important elements of MYWP.

A donated 43 foot uniquely crafted and historic wooden trawler will be one of the tools used by the MYWP.

The MYWP will be providing the youth of Minnesota a variety of opportunities to engage in outdoor activities and gain an understanding of the human impacts on the Mississippi and its surrounding water sheds.

While on the Mississippi river, youth will have the chance to be inspired by the river’s ecosystem, gaining knowledge and an understanding of the importance of keeping our waters clean and sustainable for all.  Water curriculum, hands on environmental projects, and an understanding of how we can help keep the balance and health for all organisms that depend on the river and clean water for life are some of the educational aspects of this project. Acquiring life skills, working with tools, community living and meeting folks that have lived on the river to share its story will make this experience an adventure of a life time.
